At Bespoke Stones by J Jones, we’ve fulfilled a wide variety of designs for our customers; from a vase carved into a rugby ball to a life sized motorbike carving. No matter how big or small your requirements, we’ll strive to provide a memorial stone that meets every one of them.

How it works

Initial enquiry
Once we receive your enquiry, our friendly and understanding team will guide you through the options for your bespoke memorial; either in person at your home, at our office in Southampton, or via phone or email.

Processing your application
Once you’ve decided on a design, we’ll take a 50% deposit and explain the full process and timeline for crafting your new memorial.

All memorials require permission from your local council or diocese before they can be erected; so we’ll liaise with them on your behalf to secure your memorial permit.

First design proofs
Bespoke memorial materials are received from our suppliers within around 3 months.

In the meantime, we’ll send over proofs for your gravestone’s epitaph and graphics for you to review. You’re free to go ahead with the proof design, or request any revisions until you’re 100% happy.

Stencil & carving
Our team will then use your approved design to create a carving stencil and attach it to your gravestone once it arrives with us.

We’ll confirm you’re 100% happy with the stencil before beginning the memorial carving process; which usually takes a few weeks to complete.

Erecting your memorial
Once your bespoke memorial stone is complete and approved with the council or diocese, our team will lay a foundation at the burial site and then erect the memorial to the highest standards.

Please note that cemetery plots require a period between 6 and 12 months between burial and erection of memorial stones to prevent the stone sinking into the ground.

Completion & certification
Once you’ve visited the burial site and you’re 100% satisfied with our workmanship, we’ll invoice for the other 50%, and provide you with a complete Certificate of Compliance to guarantee your work meets BS 8415 memorial quality standards.

Memorial insurance can also be arranged with us at this stage for added peace of mind.
